What Have We Learned?

Recapping the Koontz Builder trip to the International Builders' Show

The Dale Koontz - Builder team was represented at the 2019 International Builders' Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, February 19-21.  Seven team members (and their guests) got the chance to take in the sights and lights of Vegas while also feasting their eyes on the latest and greatest products and trends in the home building industry.

So what did we learn?

First, everyone expects that there will be a continued explosion of Internet enabled devices to serve us in our homes.  We saw Alexa enabled plumbing fixtures and lighting, along with Google Assistant controlled appliances.  We're still not sure why you have to tell Alexa to flush your toilet - but it appears that manufacturers are preparing to make that happen.

Secondly, the industry sees that disruption is likely - perhaps even inevitable.  Unless you've had your head in the sand, you can't miss what Amazon has done to retail, what Uber has done to transportation or what AirBNB has done to the lodging business.  How will technology disrupt the homebuilding industry?  This is the great unanswered question still for builders - but folks are searching for the answer.

Finally, we did find new products to use that can make our houses better and our jobs easier.  We saw the latest and greatest in fasteners, flashing, ladders and much more.  We will bring these products into our homes to give our customers the best home we can.

We regularly attend IBS in order to stay up to speed in our industry - what else would you expect from the Quincy area's premier home builder and remodeler??  We will continue to invest in our team and in our education in order to provide the best product and professional building experience to our customers.
