Defining Professionalism

Our 2nd core value is Professionalism

In this space last month we shared our thoughts with you regarding the meaning of the word “Integrity” when it comes to running a home building and remodeling company.  We said that our 3 bedrock principles are Integrity, Professionalism and Quality Craftsmanship.  This month I’d like to share a few thoughts on what Professionalism looks like for us – and why it’s important.

Let’s start with “Professional” as it stands in contrast to “Hobby” or “Amateur”.  It’s a critical distinction that we make when we talk about working with potential clients.  For us, the construction of homes and the remodeling of homes is our full-time occupation (and has been for more than 45 years at Dale Koontz Builder).  This is NOT a side job or hobby for us.  When we go to work on your project we will do it in the most professional manner possible.  That means we have insurance; we pull the appropriate permits; we own the right tools (or will buy them as needed); we are constantly educating our staff about the best practices in the industry.

What else does Professionalism mean?  We plan and we organize.  We contribute to community causes.  We serve on local charitable boards.  We pay our staff with fair wages AND benefits.  We have folks working for us that take pride in their career and in their work.  That’s what it means when we say that Professionalism is one of our core values.

If that sounds like the kind of builder that you’d like to do business with – then give us a call!
