Koontz Builder celebrates 45th Anniversary

Quincy Homebuilder reaches milestone

Tim and Scott Koontz are pleased to announce that Dale Koontz – Builder, Inc. is celebrating its 45^th Anniversary on March 1, 2018.

Dale Koontz decided to strike out on his own in 1973, after working for another Quincy homebuilder.  With wife Donna taking care of the books and with Dave Tieman hired as his first employee, Dale signed a contract to build a house on Lantern Lane in Quincy. (The price of that 1460 square foot ranch was just over $32,000!) Slowly and carefully Dale built a reputation for quality work and over the years he branched out from custom homes to subdivision development and the construction and management of a portfolio of rental properties.

In 1996 Dale’s son Tim joined the family business; Scott Koontz joined his dad and brother in 1999. During the 2000’s the company grew in sales and in the number of employees on staff.  As the Great Recession hit, the company increased the number of remodeling jobs that it did – as the market was asking for this much more than for custom homes.  Even though many building companies around the country did not survive the late 2000’s, the Koontz team remained intact with no layoffs.

Since 2010 Dale and Donna have enjoyed spending more and more time in Florida and on the golf course – and the ownership and management of the company has now passed to the 2^nd generation, with Tim serving as company President and Scott acting in the role of Secretary and Treasurer.  Today the Koontz team includes 18 people working in the field, plus 5 more people covering sales, estimating, project management and more. The Koontz brothers are eager to point out that among todays staff you will find the 3^rd generation of the Koontz family – plus Dale’s original helper, Dave Tieman, is still going strong and celebrating 45 years with the company.

“Our parents worked incredibly hard to build this business” say the Koontz brothers, “but the success does not belong to our family alone.  Numerous vendors, subcontractors and employees have worked with us over the years – many of them for 20 years and more – and it is due to the efforts of ALL of these people that Dale Koontz – Builder enjoys the reputation it has today.”

Two different events are being held on March 1 to acknowledge this milestone.  There will be a Founders’ Day breakfast for partners and employees in the morning and the Koontz employees and spouses will enjoy a special dinner in the evening with Dale and Donna Koontz.
